Coal Train came together in the autumn of 2009. The initial three musicians, Richard Amundsen (guitar and vocals), Jordan Hill (drums) and Michael Matthews (bass guitar) have been the best of friends since they were at school. This is not the first time the lads have been in a band together. After the departure of the singer from their previous band This Ain’t Vegas, the lads decided to take time out from playing.
At the beginning of this year they found a fourth member, John Beattie (Beak) to man the keyboard and add uplifting harmonies to Richards exploding tones. This gave them the extra push to start compiling enough songs to fill a set list and start gigging the DIY circuit. Playing alongside their good friends The Futureheads, Field Music, Hot Club De Paris and That Fucking Tank.
